Harper Lee

February 19, 2016

Well, today we lost a literary legend.  Harper Lee, author of one of the most controversial American novels ever, passed away at 89.  Required reading and viewing, To Kill A Mockingbird was one of the most amazing books I remember reading during my time in school.  Easily captured the essence of racial tension in the South.  And you can see the attention and care she put into making every detail stand out on each page.  If you read Go Set A Watchman, you can see the pains she took to craft the story to its strongest form, truly building a world where these characters existed.  It might not be the same caliber of To Kill A Mockingbird, but it does add a richness to the history of the characters.  Wish she had written more, but at the same time I think part of the reason Mockingbird is so brilliant is that she had the restraint not to stop there.
