NaNoWriMo Recap

November 19, 2009

So I just finished my NaNoWriMo novel, titled Zombie Dance.  It’s sitting pretty right now as I prepare to answer the eternal question:  What’s next?  Well, I like to think there’s a post NaNoWriMO routine that should be followed in all cases.

  1. Fall over and go ka-thud.  This is inevitable and necessary.  Do not challenge the ka-thud.  It will mess you up.
  2. Don’t look at the work you’ve done in NaNoWriMo for at least two days after completion.  This is important because it will be bad news if you start hemorrhaging as a result of too much exposure to your novel.
  3. Detox.  By the time you finish your novel, the amount of caffeine in your system is probably giving you shakes and getting close to unsafe levels–especially if your beverage is similar to mine, AMP.  Those shakes have made it more challenging to type, and a strong detox program is necessary and highly recommended.
  4. If you must write something of signicance, work on something completely different.  This will help refresh those areas of your mind you just spent three or four weeks destroying.

Well, that’s the recovery plan.  As for my next projects, let’s take a minute to consider.  I’ve started working on a follow-up to Saga of the Universes: Rise of the Knight.  I’ve posted the prologue on Writers Cafe, so that’s started.

Also planning to start getting Zombie Dance ready for a serious push as far as publication goes.  And I’m thinking more of a traditional publishing venture with that.  Hope the end of December to have it at least submitted somewhere.
